The University of Chicago Center for Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders has a very active research program looking at new ways to treat these illnesses.

If you have recently been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease and have not been treated with carbidopa/levodopa, Sinemet, or Stalevo, please contact Katie Arrigo to find out if you can participate in a study that seeks to better understand the origins of Parkinson's Disease in newly diagnosed people. We are currently working on a number of trials involving patients with either Parkinson's disease or Huntington's disease:

Parkinson's disease
1. Currently enrolling: A multicenter nationwide clinical trial with the aim of helping patients with Parkinson's disease who experience clinically diagnosed end of dose wearing off (EODWO). Sponsored by Novartis, the study involves the use of the drug Stalevo.

2. Closed to enrollment: Sponsored by Kyowa Pharmaceuticals, this multicenter clinical trial with sites both nationwide and internationally, involves the use of an experimental study drug that aims of helping patients with Parkinson's Disease who have motor complications on levodopa/carbidopa therapy. (No longer open for enrollment)

Huntington's disease
1. Currently enrolling: COHORT- also sponsored by the Huntington's Study Group. This study is an observational research study involving patients with Huntington's disease and family members of patients with HD. The study involves two visits, both annual, and requires the subject to complete a series of questionnaires and a blood draw.
